Organization from Britain Charities Aid Foundation once again published the World Ranking of Charity - World Giving Index. Unfortunately, Ukraine took only 103rd place in it. The press service of the Association of Philanthropists of Ukraine reports.
In 2014, the rating was conducted for the fifth time. As in previous years, the results are based on the population's answers to the question: "Did you do any of the following during the last month?"
- donated money to non-profit organizations?;
- did you work in non-profit organizations as a volunteer?;
- Did they help a person who directly needs it?
The 5th edition of the World Charity Ranking contains data on charity in the world for the last five years (from 2009 to 2013). The information includes data on 135 countries of the world, which were collected during 2013.
In the 5th world rating of charity, Ukraine ranks 103rd, the rating of charity is 23%. This is one position lower than last year (102), but it is much better than the position when Ukraine was included in the rating (153, penultimate place). Our country shares 103rd place with Benin, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Estonia and Nagorno-Karabakh.
By types and directions, Ukrainian charity ranks:
- by the amount of donations - 123rd place;
- by volume of volunteer work – 43rd place;
- by the amount of direct aid - 118th place.
This rating was conducted during one month of 2013 (as indicated in the methodology), and most likely it was before the revolution on Independence Square. Therefore, the indicated data do not show a surge in the wave of volunteerism and philanthropy at the end of 2013 and the beginning of 2014.
"We see that the data presented in the rating do not reflect the current state of charity and volunteering in Ukraine," the president noted Associations of philanthropists of Ukraine Oleksandr Maksymchuk. - Today, charitable and volunteer work is a part of the life of every Ukrainian, from young to old. Dozens of charity events are held every day in different parts of the country, the volunteer movement is developing strongly, and the social responsibility of business is unprecedented.
But these results are a kind of "time machine". They show what we were like a year ago. The Maidan instilled in us the need for mutual aid and mutual support. Today, they are embodied in the unity of the entire country to help our military. And in the future, I am convinced, they will not disappear anywhere. After all, we have changed, our society has become different. And the 5th World rating of charity showed what our society was like before the Revolution of Dignity.
The first and second places in the 5th World Ranking of Charity are shared between Myanmar and the USA. Canada is in third place, followed by Ireland, New Zealand, Australia, Malaysia, and Great Britain. The ninth and tenth lines were shared by Sri Lanka and Trinidad and Tobago.
